Beltran Wins WBO Title

Beltran wins unanimous decision

In the main event of Top Rank Boxing on ESPN from the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino in Reno, Nevada, Raymundo Beltran improved to 35-7-1, with a unanimous decision (117-111 2x, 116-112) over Paulus Moses (40-4, 25KOs) to become the WBO Lightweight Champion of the World.

In the first round Beltran found a home for his right hand. In the second round both fighters had their moments in some good exchanges. The third round saw Moses finding a home for his own right hand while Beltran started digging to the body. However Beltran suffered a cut over his right eye in the round.

In the fourth round Beltran was moving Moses back as Moses suffered a cut over his eye. During the fifth round Beltran was able to hurt Moses early in the round but he seemed to end the round strong. The sixth round appeared as if Moses was landing the cleaner harder punches. At this point Beltran had cuts over both eyes.

Both guys landed some good shots in round seven. The was shaping up to be close. Both fighters were standing right in front of each other throughout the fight. In the eighth round it was Beltran landing his jab while Moses continue to land the right hand. In the ninth round Moses hurt Beltran early in the round while Beltran came back late landing some good body work.

Beltran seemed to have gotten a second wind as he took the last three rounds of the fight to pick up the vacant WBO Lightweight title. Moses was tough and gave it all he has and he should really keep his head up high. Beltran is now a world champ, can’t think of a more deserving guy, everything Beltran’s ever got he has worked hard for. It was a good fight, exciting performance by both men.
