Bill Haney Not Convinced Ryan Garcia Shows Up For Battle
While it’s not an official fight, WBC junior welterweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15 Ko’s) and “King Ry” Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KO’s) have their teams deep in negotiations. From all reports, it appears that everything is going smoothly and this duel should be announced in short order. Unsurprisingly though, Bill Haney, father and chief second to Devin Haney, is not sold on the notion that King Ry makes it to the ring. The verbal dynamic coach explained as much during a recent interview with Mill City Boxing.
“Listen, it ain’t no telling with Ryan. You know how vicious we look over here. I don’t know if he want to look over here. He done looked over here and thought about it a couple different times.”
For those familiar with the history, the elder Haney is well within his rights to be highly skeptical of Garcia. King Ry recently chose to launch a public fight campaign to orchestrate facing Haney. When The Dream expressed interest in the fight and the two teams began negotiating, Garcia abruptly pulled out. He claimed this was so that he could face WBA 140-pound champion Roland Romero. Yet the duel didn’t happen either because Romero opted to face Isaac Cruz instead.
A HISTORY OF AVOIDANCE
Prior to abandoning the talks that he initiated, in years past, Garcia worked his way up the ladder to become Haney’s mandatory challenger. Instead of dancing with The Dream however, King Ry ridiculously ducked the opportunity to face Emmanuel Tagoe.
King Ry also famously butchered his reputation by abandoning a prizefight with WBA 135-pound champion Gervonta Davis to supposedly face boxing phenomenon Manny Pacquiao. The Pacquiao fight never came into existence. Sometime later, King Ry did face Davis only to be stopped.
So once again, we will simply have to wait and see what becomes of this great potential match-up. For the time being however, just stick close to 3Kings Boxing to stay abreast of all the late breaking news.
