Ryan Garcia, Floyd Schofield, and Mosley Jr. Win by Stoppage
In his first fight since suffering his sole professional defeat, “King” Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KO’s) hopped back in the win column. He did this by stopping Oscar Duarte (26-2-1, 21 KO’s) in the eighth. Speed and movement easily won the early rounds for Garcia due to Duarte’s near complete lack of a jab when stalking.
Around the fourth and fifth rounds, there was a change in the tide as Duarte’s constant pressure and heavy body attack began bothering King Ryan. In fact, by the sixth round, one would not be wrong to say that Garcia was at times flat-out running around the ring. His actions brought a regular chorus of boos from the crowd at hand. King Ryan also chose to adopt an odd defensive posture that saw him turn nearly completely around, exposing his back.
Despite the shift in momentum, Garcia clobbered Duarte with a sniper-like counter left hook that badly hurt him in the eighth. Recognizing that his opponent’s legs had been transformed into grape Smuckers, King Ryan quickly jumped on him and dropped him with a volley of shots. Duarte would not beat the count.
While he did pick up another nifty knockout win, Garcia will certainly catch more heat for his brief entry in the Tour De France and oddball defensive tactics. It will be revealing to see who King Ryan, ranked #15 (WBO) #7 (IBF) #7 (WBC) #4 (WBA), takes on next. Before leaving the ring, Garcia called out WBA super lightweight Champion in Recess Rolando Romero.
FLOYD SCHOFIELD ANNIHILATES RICARDO TORRES IN ONE!
For his latest piece of action, lightweight boxer Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield (16-0, 16 KO’s) chopped up and stopped Ricardo “Explosivo” Torres (17-8-3, 12 KO’s) in the first round. The bushwhacking transpired so fast there really was not much to report outside of Schofield’s thumping left hook, which he landed almost immediately.
Not only did Kid Austin, ranked #5 (WBA), connect with the hook, he did a great deal of damage. So much so that Schofield dropped Torres four total times in the opening round. On the fourth collision with the canvas, referee Joe Rodriguez called a halt to the slaughter. With the win, Kid Austin continues to shine and keeps his perfect knockout streak alive. It should be fun to see what’s next for this up and coming fighter.
SHANE MOSLEY JR. SCORES TKO OVER JOSHUA CONLEY!
In his latest tour duty, middleweight boxer Shane Mosley Jr. (21-4, 12 KO’s) picked up a largely forgettable sixth round TKO win over Joshua “Young Gun” Conley (17-6-1, 11 KO’s). Right from the start, Mosley was the ring general – commanding the action with his length, jab and greater output. Young Gun was very game and attempted to give it his all but was clearly in over his head.
It was an uphill battle for Conley, who was cut in the first round and clearly did not have a full gas tank. He was losing most of every round but providing decent resistance. Everything officially went off the rails for Young Gun in the sixth when he was caught with a series of right hooks to the head that repeatedly rocked and neutralized his equilibrium.
When hurt, Conley bit down and opted to fight but swayed and wobbled like a three-legged barbeque chair when hit. After being battered for the majority of the sixth, Young Gun holstered the fight when he retired on his stool rather than answer the bell for the seventh. Ranked #6 (WBC), #8 (WBO), #10 (IBF) and #10 (WBA), it will be interesting to see who Mosley Jr. takes on next.
