Is Blair Cobbs Hinting at Steroid Use By Haney?
Unsurprisingly, when two-division champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15 KO’s) sued “King Ry’ Ryan Garcia, it divided the boxing world. In his opinion, on one side, welterweight fighter Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (17-1-1, 0 KO’s) feels as though seeking financial damages through the legal system is a soft move. Yet, more striking than this, Cobbs has levied a very serious allegation of doping against Devin Haney and his father.
While speaking with Fight Hype, The Flair did an exceedingly poor job of trying to remain incognito when discussing his suspicions regarding Haney’s potential PED’s use.
“Let’s put it like this: what if Devin Haney got popped for steroids . . . because I know that he done did some shit! I’ve been around! I don’t want to say too much but mothafucka I’ve been around. I’ve been to the same gyms, I’ve seen some shit! And I’ve heard some shit, I think you [Haney] the last person to be talking about steroids! . . . It ain’t nothing big. I can’t say too much, but I just know that people will do anything to win and people will try to do the very best that they can do with their son.”
THIS AIN’T A DATE!
For his money, Cobbs is of the mind that if Haney is still cross about the whole situation then he should simply fight him again. Although, his wordplay when framing the argument was somewhat ironic.
“If you truly believe that that mothfucka is not better than you, then prove it, in a fair fight. Don’t fucking having a lawsuit that is waving over his head and doing this and doing that. Nah, give him fair emotional rest, give him more than enough time to prepare, in a fair fight, and fight him again.”
This was odd sounding considering Garcia did not do any of this for Haney. In terms of “emotional rest”, Garcia was behaving in such an erratic and loopy manner that most in the boxing world doubted the duel would actually happen. His Golden Boy promoters were asked at length by the media if Garcia would show up on fight night. When he did show up, King Ry would do so three pounds overweight and with a banned substance in his system, hence the lawsuit.
This is why it sounded so ironic when Cobbs harped on Haney going the extra mile to make Garcia comfortable and exude fairness. Yet, it’s a guarantee that Team Haney will get wind of this interview. Once done, without question Bill Haney will pop up on some platform to give his colorful rebuttal to Cobbs. Where the words go from there – who knows. But it could very well lead to Haney’s welterweight debut! So for the time being, let’s just see where this impending war of words lands.
