Caleb Plant Calls Out Jermall Charlo!
There seems to be some bad blood brewing after former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (21-1, 12KOs) called out WBC middleweight champion Jermall “Hitman” Charlo (32-0, 22KOs). Plant is coming off his first career loss at the hands of Canelo Alvarez. Canelo stopped him in eleven rounds to become undisputed super middleweight champion this past November.
Before losing to Alvarez, Plant made three title defenses of his IBF strap. Now, with that behind him, he’s looking towards 2022 and an apparent fight with Jermall Charlo.
According to Plant’s social media post, the WBC middleweight champion has been indirectly taking shots at him. So, the Tennessee native decided to be direct and let It be known to Charlo that they can scrap and that he would be easy work for him.
Obviously, this fight has major appeal. However, in order for it to take place, it would require Charlo move up eight pounds in weight to accommodate the former champion. Charlo, who is a big middleweight, would fit right in a loaded super middleweight division. He packs a major punch and is very good, so you’d figure that he would get the respect of the fighters in that division.
WOULD JERMALL CHARLO MOVE UP TO FACE PLANT?
There are tons of questions surrounding the willingness, or lack thereof, for Charlo facing top tier fighters in or around his division. For years he’s been called out by WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade to no avail. He has also mentioned wanting to fight Gennady Golovkin, Canelo Alvarez and more recently former WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez. However, none of those fights have happened.

It’ll be interesting to see if Charlo responds and what that response is. 3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
