Charles Conwell Signs to Golden Boy
In the latest evolution of his professional career, #1 (WBC) ranked super welterweight Charles “Bad News” Conwell (18-0, 13 KO’s) has signed with Golden Boy Promotions. It will be interesting to see what type of match-ups the promotional outfit can drum up for him. Although, at the moment he is in a very strategic position.
On March 30, Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora will face Serhii Bohachuk to decide the fate of the vacant WBC 154-title. The strap was officially displaced when the sanctioning body named Jermell Charlo, the previous belt holder, as “champion in recess.” Following the collision of Fundora and Bohachuk, mandatory challenger Conwell is slated to be first in line to clash with the victor.
WHAT THINGS MAY COME
At the current moment, Conwell has been out of action for roughly 15 months. This is mainly due to boxing politics and the inability to pen the prizefights that he truly desired. In his last tour of duty, Bad News claimed a majority decision win over Juan Carlos Abreu. In his only other duel of 2022, Conwell collected the scalp of Abraham Juarez Ramirez by way of third round TKO.
Despite his inactivity, since his last match with Abreu, Conwell was still able to advance from the #2 slot to #1 within the WBC rankings. It will be enlightening to see what type of fight his WBC standing and GBP backing can get Bad News later in the year. Stick close to 3Kings Boxing to see who that will be.
