Jermall Charlo to will defend the WBC title against Dennis Hogan!
3kingsboxing.com has learned a deal is being finalized for WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo to defend his title against Dennis Hogan in December.
The match-up is a bit peculiar because while Hogan is ranked #6 by the WBC at junior middleweight, he is obviously unranked at middleweight since he has not been campaigning there.
In fact, the last time the Irish-born Australian fought at middleweight was in November 2014 where he won by disqualification against Jose Berrio.
Furthermore, he is coming off a majority decision loss, though highly controversial against WBO junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia in April.
This is obviously disappointing if you’re a Charlo fan who expected a significant step up fight after his defeat of Brandon Adams in June.
Nevertheless, Charlo will be the favorite in this fight. Hogan is more boxer than puncher, so don’t expect a knockout to go in his favor. The champion, on the other hand, possesses fight-changing power.
If victorious, hopefully we’ll see Charlo against one of the champions in a high stakes unification bout, regardless of the politics.
It’s time for him to step up his quality of competition and prove what he believes; that he’s truly the man at middleweight.
