Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Signed to Fight Danny Jacobs in December

During the month of September, stories regarding a Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (51-3-1, 33 KO’s) versus former middleweight champion Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs (35-3, 29 KO’s) super middleweight showdown made their rounds through various boxing outlets. DAZN would host the potential match, with speculation for December 14 fight date.

There is still no official announcement to speak of. Although, Chavez Jr revealed to EsNews that he had signed his portion of the contract. Junior, a former WBC middleweight champion, is confident that the bout will be finalized and announced shortly.

Jacobs and Chavez Jr have a common opponent in current WBA super world middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (52-1-2, 35 KO’s). He defeated them both by clear unanimous decisions. Daniel Jacobs has been inactive and completely off the radar since his May 4 dust-up with the Mexican superstar.

UNDERWHELMING OPPOSITION

The great majority of the boxing world was very underwhelmed with Jacobs performance against Alvarez. The general consensus says Miracle Man left a lot on the table. Plainly, he played it too safe and never went for broke. The same could be, and was, said about Junior’s May 2017 prizefight with Canelo.

Most believed that Alvarez was clearly the more skilled and disciplined of the two fighters. However, it was thought that due to his size, perhaps Chavez Jr could pose Saul Alvarez some problems. He did not. Once in the ring, the notorious underachiever delivered one of his most flat and disappointing outings to date. Following the tepid and ultra-forgettable showing, Chavez Jr sat out the remainder of 2017 and all of 2018.

Junior successfully returned to the ring this past August 10 against the less than stellar foe Evert Bravo (25-11-1, 19 KO’s). Bravo went 2-4 in his six bouts before facing Junior. Also, out of his 11 losses, he has been stopped 10 times.

If all goes according to plan, Chavez Jr and Jacobs will collide in a super middleweight battle. It’s likely that on the same card, there will be a super flyweight unification bout staged between WBC world super flyweight champion Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada (40-3, 27 KO’s) and WBA world super flyweight champion Khalid “Kal” Yafai (26-0, 15 KO’s).

3kingsboxing will continue to monitor and provide updates on this developing super middleweight prizefight.
