Conor Benn Calls Out Errol Spence After WBC “Egg” Ruling
Social media has been all over the controversial WBC ruling on Conor “The Destroyer” Benn’s (21-0, 14 KO’s) failed drug tests prior to a bout with Chris Eubank Jr. Feeling “rejuvenated” now that he will be reinstated in the WBC rankings, Benn has unexpectedly placed a target on the back of unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr!
Just as he is itching for great fights in the ring, Spence wasn’t ducking any smoke in the Twitter realm either. The unified champion not only returned fire, he also kicked threw flames on Benn’s Hall of Fame father, Nigel “Dark Destroyer” Benn.
POPS CAN GET IT TOO
For those not in the know, the shot Spence took at Nigel Benn comes from an event that took place after his 1995 victory over Gerald McClellan. Before being approached to take a post-fight drug test, Benn fainted on his way back to the locker room. This ultimately allowed him to avoid being tested.
Many fans then and now theorize his fainting was fabricated to prevent providing a failed drug test. This has come to light again twenty-eight years later with Conor’s controversy.
JUST FOR ENTERTAINMENT
While their verbal sparring is entertaining, there is little reason to believe that it progresses past on-line tough talk. It is very public knowledge that The Truth has been ardently trying to pen a prizefight with WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford.

Recent rumblings expect Spence will likely face his long-time nemesis Keith Thurman at junior middleweight. While doubtful that the match between Benn and Spence will happen next, if ever, The Truth did express his admiration for the gumption that The Destroyer displayed in selling his wolf tickets.
The next few months will be very interesting for both fighters. Whether Spence gets Crawford or Thurman, both will make for entertaining matches. Yet there is no question that The Truth versus Crawford is the far batter fight.
In terms of Benn, even though the WBC accepted his story and welcomed him back to the sport, this is not the case for a large majority of the boxing world. The public perception seems to hold Benn as a “drug cheat” who just got a gift ruling by the sanctioning body. Therefore, it will be very interesting to see how he bounces back from this turbulent time.
