Conor Benn Says He’s Ready To Silence Devin Haney

Welterweight resident Conor “The Destroyer” Benn (23-0, 14 KOs) believes he can whip anyone from 140-147 pounds. That includes reigning WBC champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15 KOs), a fighter Benn feels he can handle with ease.

DO NOT QUESTION MY POWER

The Destroyer is coming off a comfortable unanimous decision victory over Peter Dobson on February 3. During the post-fight press conference with the boxing media, Benn was asked for his response to Haney questioning his power. The fiery Benn held nothing back on his opinion about the current 140-pound champion.

“What the fuck is he talking about? He ain’t knocked anyone out in his last fifteen fights. What is he talking about power? He’s never had power.

My DNA is strong, don’t worry about that. I’m fresh out of my dad. He’s just jealous because he’s never had any. If he wants to come find out about the power, I’ll be more than happy to show him.”

“He can get it next. I’ll deal with him, no problem. He’s easy work.”

NOTHING HAS CHANGED

The win over Dobson was Benn’s second straight decision victory since a suspension for testing positive for banned substances in October 2022.

This has led some in the boxing community to speculate that Benn is a different fighter. Benn had stopped five of his previous seven opponents before the suspension. But he is adamant that nothing has changed and that he is as destructive and ferocious as ever.

COULD WE SEE THEM FIGHT?

The back-and-forth talk could be settled in the ring. Haney’s father and trainer, Bill Haney, made a surprising appearance during the post-fight presser. He and Benn exchanged some kind words.

In December 2023, The Dream moved up to 140 and defeated Regis Prograis to capture the WBC junior welterweight title. Despite just entering the junior welterweight division, Team Haney already has their eyes on eventually campaigning at welterweight.

Benn is promoted by Eddie Hearn. The Chairman of Matchroom Promotions has also worked several of Haney’s fights. It would be an interesting matchup. Benn is the aggressor who has developed into a very competent all-around fighter. Haney is the smooth craftsman and considered one of the elite fighters in the sport.

With Bill Haney attending Benn’s press conference, that could be a sign that something is in the works for either late this year or early in 2025.
