Richard Commey Possibly out of Vasiliy Lomachenko bout April 12 due to injury
On February 2, Richard Commey achieved a life-long dream of becoming a world champion by destroying Isa Chaniev in two rounds for the vacant IBF lightweight title. With that victory, he put himself in line to fight unified champion Vasiliy Lomachnko on April 12 in Los Angeles.
However, recently 3KingsBoxing has learned the potential bout could be in jeopardy. Following his win, Commey told ringside reporters he feared he injured his right hand.
“When I hit him, I felt my right hand move. I’m going to have to look at it.”

While he claimed there was no swelling, he did admit he felt a pop after landing a right hand in the first round. According to his promoter Lou DiBella, Commey will undergo an MRI February 7 for a possible knuckle injury.
If there is no serious damage, a bout with Lomachenko would proceed in spite of a relative quick turnaround. Any significant injury to his knuckle would require a rehabilitation that could take up to six weeks, therefore, possibly postponing the bout.
Should Lomachenko vs Commey not take place, look for the unified champion to instead fight former WBA champion Anthony Crolla.
