David Benavidez wants to humble Edgar Berlanga
There is no doubt that former super middleweight champion David “Red Flag” Benavidez (23-0, 20 KO’s) is no stranger to beef and rivalry. In fact, it is hard to bring up his name and not think of IBF world super middleweight champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (20-0, 12 KO’s). These two have maintained a very cantankerous and public feud for roughly four years. Their animosity is so potent that Benavidez wants to fight him whether belts are at stake or not. Yet, Plant is not the only person that has gotten under the Arizonian’s skin.
Along with Sweethands, Benavidez would love to sock rising prospect Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (16-0, 16 KO’s) in the face. Apparently, Red Flag has an equal opportunity mindset when it comes to shutting up those he does not care for! As it so often happens in this modern age, comments made over social media outlets have fanned the flames of his ire.
After seeing a number of slanderous posts made by Berlanga, Benavidez thinks an in-ring thumping would be the best punishment. When it comes to his enemies however, Red Flag would rather be a man of action rather than talk.
CUT THE TOUGH ACT!
Due to his ‘action over words’ mentality, as he told Fight Hub TV, Benavidez has already contacted Team Berlanga to set up a fight. Yet, there are some who think that the former world champion is picking on the New Yorker. This is due to the complete lack of top tier competition that the Chosen One has faced.
“I’ll fight Berlanga, if he wants to fight. I see him posting a lot about me, posting about the fight. I’ll fight him. I did reach out, my dad reached out to his manager, but I’m not going to put all that business out. Him and his manager know that we got in contact with him already. So whenever they want to get it, I am here! I’ll fight anybody, I don’t care.”
In fact, there is growing clamor in boxing circles for the Chosen One to step his competition up. Berlanga, 23, is going on five years as professional fighter. During that time, he has not fought anyone of any consequence or overwhelming skill. Despite this fact, or perhaps due to it, the Chosen One is swiftly growing in notoriety and popularity. This is a result of scoring sixteen first-round knockouts in sixteen fights. Then again, who did he fight? Either way, Red Flag is looking to shut his mouth up to stop what he believes is hallow tough talk.
“It’s just that his character is…he acts like a nice guy without the camera. With the camera, he grows a pair of fucking balls. He thinks he’s a killer in the ring, he’s not!”
