Benavidez Wants To Get Back At Canelo By Defeating Gvozdyk
Since he can’t land a fight with undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, two-time WBC champion David “The Mexican Monster” Benavidez (28-0, 24KO) plans to take out his frustration on Oleksandr “The Nail” Govzdyk (20-1, 16KO), who is a member of Team Canelo.
The hottest topic continues to be Canelo (60-2-2, 39KO) leaving PBC to avoid The Mexican Monster. Several boxing fans and pundits are unhappy with the outcome, especially with rumors of him possibly fighting Jaime Munguia next.
Team Benavidez was anticipating this, hence why they are on the verge of closing a deal to fight The Nail for the WBC interim light heavyweight title. The two-time champion is probably training extra hard, after learning that Gvozdyk is working with Reynoso, who is famous for training Alvarez.
TARGETS ACQUIRED
While speaking with Tha Boxing Voice, Benavidez is willing to accept a win over the Ukrainian as the next best thing.
“I seen that he was training with Canelo’s team. But, that’s the only thing I know about that. But, like I said, if I can’t get Canelo, I’m going beat up everybody in his team. We did Ellis [Ronald], and now we’re going to do Oleksandr.”
Benavidez left the door open for a return to the super middleweight division.
“I’m not leaving the division. You guys are making it seem like I’m leaving. I’m just going up and winning another fight up there. You know there is an opportunity to win the fight for another belt.”
This move to light heavyweight shouldn’t be a surprise, as he has hinted at wanting to fight WBA champion Dmitry Bivol. The two-time champion will undoubtedly be in some kind of a mood, which could spell trouble for Gvozdyk.
