Golden Boy Promotions Hopeful of Signing Adrien Broner
The recruiting effort is in full effect for Golden Boy Promotions. The fighter they are targeting is multi-divisional world champion Adrien “AB” Broner (34-4-1, 24 KOs).
Broner is a free agent after announcing he has parted ways with BLK Prime. In reaction to that news, Golden Boy Promotions business partner, Bernard Hopkins, said that he would love to make a fight between Broner and trash-talking welterweight Blair Cobb.
The promotional outlet is now intensifying its pitch to Broner. Company CEO and Chairman Oscar De La Hoya went to social media and posted the following.
LET’S MAKE A DEAL
The promotional bigwig would love to have him in the fold. Sure, there is a segment of boxing aficionados that have soured on Broner over the years. In truth, his recent outings have been far from impressive. However, the fighter from Cincinnati, Ohio is still a fighter who garners plenty of attention. Like or loathe him, the man is a ticket-seller and puts butts in seats. That would make him a financial asset, as far as Golden Boy is concerned.
Fans on boxing message boards have commented that Broner-Cobbs is a fight they would watch. Another matchup you could see dancing in the heads of Hopkins and De La Hoya is a fight between Broner and world-ranked welterweight Vergil Ortiz Jr.
At age 33, Broner believes he can win another world title. If he wants to put himself in a position to get another world title opportunity or earn another big-money fight, his best option is signing with a promoter. At this stage of his career, AB needs a dance partner if he wants to have any significant future in this sport.
As of this writing, there has been no word of any formal meeting between Broner and Golden Boy. However, this is a story worth keeping an eye on.
