JoJo Diaz Wants A Unification with Leo Santa Cruz!

IBF junior lightweight champion Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz (31-1, 15ko) woke up with a dream fulfilled when he defeated Tevin “American Idol” Farmer (30-5-1, 6ko) on January 30. Still basking in glory, the California champion is already looking to make even bigger moves.

If a unification can be made with the WBA “Super” champion and at the famous Staple Center, it would be a money magnet. The only hiccup would be if Premier Boxing Champions and Golden Boy can’t play nice for the sake of the sport. It is something that they’ve done in the past.

Diaz has also said that re-matching the former Philadelphia champion is on the table as well. It is clear that the IBF champion isn’t trying to just sit idle and is still showing signs of being hungry. The junior lightweight division is primed and ready to explode with some of the best fights in the sport, and this could be the fight that gets the ball rolling.

As of the writing of this article, Santa Cruz hasn’t responded. However, the WBA champion has expressed a desire to face WBC featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr and WBA “regular” lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

Bottom line, this is a good fight that needs to be at the very least considered. Two young hungry champions both with Mexican heritage and live in California – this has the making of a big movie production type of fight build-up and the fans would gladly stand in line to buy a ticket.
