Cornejo vs Dezurn: A “Diva” Showdown

Cornejo vs Dezurn

Maricela “La Diva” Cornejo (12-2, 5KO) returns to action Thursday, September 13. She will battle against “The Heavy-Hitting Diva” Franchon Crews-Dezurn )3-1, 1KO).

The bout will air on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.

Turning pro at 25 with only four amateur fights hasn’t stopped Cornejo’s star from shining. The former WBC International Female Super Middleweight champion made history in 2016 when she competed in New Zealand’s first-ever major world title bout.

Cornejo has also kept herself very busy in the sport; fighting at least three times a year since 2016. She will continue that trend by stepping into the ring for the fourth time in six months in 2018.

Franchon Crews-Dezurn’s 3-1 professional boxing record can be a bit misleading. She is an eight-time national amateur champion whose sole professional loss came at the hands of current, two-division champion and two-times Olympic Gold Medalist, Claressa Shields, in Dezurn’s pro debut.

The September showdown between Cornejo and Dezurn not only gives both women a chance to shine before boxing’s most anticipated rematch but, a chance to win the interim WBC World Female Super Middleweight title; which would line up things nicely for the winner’s future.
