Eddy Reynoso Says Canelo Wants Jermall Charlo Next!

The immediate future looks set for Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs). According to Eddy Reynoso, trainer, and manager of Alvarez, the reigning undisputed super middleweight champion has eyes on conquering Jermell Charlo (35-1-1 19 KOs), and then next fighting his twin brother and current WBC middleweight champio,n Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs).

LAYING OUT THEIR PLANS

On September 30, Alvarez defends his title against Jermell, the reigning undisputed junior middleweight champion. Speaking with the media outlet Little Giant Boxing, Reynoso gave his thoughts on the upcoming matchup.

(Translated from Spanish) “It’s gonna be a great fight people will remember for a long time. A fight between Mexicans versus African Americans always delivers.

[…] We’re training hard, and we know the fight is gonna be complicated; we’re focused on the fight.”

When asked who Canelo would face next if he were to defeat Jermell, the trainer said the following:

“First, we’re gonna fight Jermell Charlo, then we’re gonna go after Jermall Charlo.”

IS THIS THE BEST OPTION?

When Alvarez announced that he was leaving DAZN and Matchroom and returning to PBC in June 2023, it was in large part because Matchroom did not have any available fights for Canelo after negotiations failed for a rematch between the Mexican superstar and reigning WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. With PBC full of talented fighters at 160 and 168, Alvarez now has a plethora of potential opponents.

Some boxing enthusiasts have gone to social media to voice their disappointment about Reynoso’s remarks. Jermell is a natural junior middleweight while Jermall has not fought since June 2021. They prefer Alvarez to next face mandatory WBC super middleweight contender and two-time 168-pound champion David Benavidez, who has been calling for a fight with Alvarez.

But Team Alvarez goes by the beat of their own drum. They fight who and when they want. In this instance, they want to take down the Charlo Brothers one by one.
