What lies ahead for Juan Francisco Estrada with a win over Dewayne Beamon
Currently, Juan Francisco Estrada’s foremost focus is successfully defending his title against Dewayne Beamon on August 24. However, the WBC super flyweight champion known as “Gallo” is cognizant that likely, a unification bout may lie ahead.
While the heavy favorite, Estrada is not taking things lightly against the aggressive Beamon. He spoke openly on the matter in an interview with ESPN Deportes.
“The truth is that I expect a hard and good fight for people. I have already seen Beamon fight and I have seen videos. He is a fast, strong fighter who wraps up […] will be an exciting fight. I hope he comes well prepared to give him a great show to people. We expect 10 to 12 thousand people to break the record.”
Interestingly enough, this fight is taking place in Estrada’s home country of Mexico. However, Beamon, with one of the more interesting nicknames in the sport (Mr. Stop Running), is more than comfortable fighting south of the border, as his previous six bouts have taken place in Mexico.
In spite of his attention being on Beamon, Estrada anticipates a win on Saturday will lead to a unification showdown against WBA World Super-Flyweight Champion Khalid Yafai.
LOOKING TOWARDS UNIFICATION
3KingsBoxing has learned should Estrada win, Zanfer Promotions (who promotes Estrada) and Matchroom (promoter of Yafai) will start negotiations for a WBC/WBA super flyweight unification bout to possibly land on the under-card of the Andy Ruiz vs Anthony Joshua rematch.
When asked about a possible fight against Yafai (26-0, 15 KO’s), Estrada gave acknowledgment to the rumors.
“The first thing is that I want to win and then I expect a unification with Yafai. There are rumors of fighting on the undercard of Andy Ruiz’s rematch with Joshua and that’s where we will unify our titles. If all goes well this August 24, those are the plan.s”
Estrada has been the hot name among the super flyweight division since a rematch win over Srisaket Sor Rungvisai on April 26 to win the WBC title. Now with the status of the “it” fighter in the division, it looks like “Gallo” has some big plans ahead. Now all he has to do is take care of business against one Mr. Beamon.
