Frank Martin Could Meet Keyshawn Davis or Stevenson Next

Despite coming up short in his last battle versus WBA 135-pound champion Gervonta Davis, lightweight contender Frank “The Ghost” Martin (18-1, 12 KO’s) proved that he can compete on the elite level. But who will he dance with in his next prizefight? Among the realistic options are top-rated Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (11-0, 7 KO’s) and WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KO’s).

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

As far as fighters in his modern era are concerned, Martin typically steers clear of social media. Nevertheless, he and Keyshawn Davis did recently show a bit of interest in squaring off with one another. Still, to this day, neither have formally announced their next bout. So it remains to be seen if they are going to test their might with each other next. Theoretically, this could be the case. But as far as the public is concerned, they have both gone radio silent.

If this duel was to take place, it would be a solid proposition for both. A win for Martin would further solidify that he is capable of holding his own and winning against top tier opposition. For Davis, The Ghost would stand as the first upper echelon pugilist scalped on his professional roster. So, for the time being, we all will just have to wait and see what, if anything, becomes of this potentially juicy showdown.

THE PRICE OF WAR

Another handsome option for Martin is WBC 135-pound champ Shakur Stevenson. Fight fans will remember that this contest was technically supposed to have happened already. Yet despite agreeing to battle one another, Martin would ultimately balk and back out due to feeling he was being short changed financially. Considering that both fighters are now in need of worthy and recognized challenges, this could very well be a favorable duel for Martin and Stevenson, alike.

Currently, Stevenson’s name is being dragged through the mud in countless boxing circles. This is due to him being labeled a boring and chicken-livered fighter. Following his performances against Edwin De Los Santos and Artem Harutyunyan, Stevenson left a stale and sour taste in the mouth of countless boxing fans. For a large segment of the boxing populace, his unwillingness to engage or go for the kill was unacceptable.

Therefore, if he was to handily beat Frank Martin, there could be a good measure of redemption to be had for Stevenson. On the flipside, a win for Martin would place him undeniably among the best in the division. So, as is often the case for the fanbase, we are suspended in a holding pattern waiting to see what comes next for Martin. Let’s just hope the next selection for The Ghost is satisfying and comes sooner rather than later.
