Frank Wood Beginning Potential Trek to Glory at Featherweight
Confidence is a trait that comes with most young fighters. That’s no exception for British prospect Frank Wood (1-0), who believes he’s on a path to becoming a future star in the featherweight division.
A top amateur, the fighter from London, England was a six-time national champion and competed at the 2022 World Amateur Championships. Word traveled about his exploits. However, after a disputed loss to Cameron Vuong at the 2023 Senior Elite National Finals in April 2023, Wood turned pro.
PUTTING THE DIVISION ON NOTICE
A hot commodity that was highly sought after by various promoters, Wood signed a promotional deal with Queensberry in January 2024. He made his pro debut with a four-round decision win over Engel Gomez on August 17 in London. After the victory, the 20-year-old sent the following message to those currently campaigning at 126 during an exclusive interview with iFL TV.
“Featherweights, I’m coming!”
Wood is a quick, fast, and athletic southpaw. A natural boxer, the Londoner does have an aggressive streak and is willing to mix it up. Some in British circles have questioned his power. But given his youth, he will get physically stronger, and his power should increase with time and as he learns to sit down more on his punches.
Time will tell if Wood’s future will include world titles. It’s too soon to tell if he achieves his goal of being the future at featherweight. But he is a fighter with genuine talent and someone worth watching in the lower-weight divisions.
