Sebastian Fundora Intends to Stay Ready for Jermell Charlo Fight
In his last match, super welterweight boxer Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora (19-0-1, 13 KO’s) fought Erickson Lubin. After stopping Lubin in arguably the toughest and most significant fight of his career, Fundora picked up the WBC Interim title. Now, The Towering Inferno will look to defend his strap against the challenge of Carlos “Chema” Ocampo (34-1, 22 KO’s).
Understandably, Fundora would jump at the chance to dance with undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo. Sadly for him however, Charlo is all set to fight WBO mandatory challenger Tim Tszyu. Having earnestly taken to heart how the champion’s busy schedule may delay his shot at the titles, Fundora assured Fight Hype that he was fine with the situation.
“It’s just patience, I guess Tim Tszyu has first, hopefully we can have him after that. But if not, I will focus on my career. I have a lot of things to do still, I am not world champion yet. So as soon as they call me, I will take the chance, but until then I am just going to focus and get these wins.”
TAKING ON ONE AND ALL
In the event that The Towering Inferno does come out on top versus Ocampo, he realizes that he must remain busy and relevant. This is why he is more than content to decimate anyone that he can get hands on that hold significant rankings.
“We’re going to stay in the top ten, whoever wants to fight in the top ten. If we have to fight the other mandatories, why not? I’ll just continue to put on these hard fights because I feel like that’s what’s going to make us grow. That’s what’s going to make us ready for that Charlo fight, if we’re not ready already. I feel like ready, but that’s going to keep us ready if anything.”
Time will tell what kind of overall force that Fundora can remain in the division. Yet for the time being, it’s Ocampo on the menu. If The Towering Inferno can not get past him, then there is no point in dreaming up potential match-ups down the line. So, let’s see how Fundora handles business in his next at bat.
