Sebastian Fundora To Rematch Brian Mendoza for the WBC Interim Title?
According to ESPN, it appears that Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora (20-1-1, 13 KO’s) will be rematching Brian “La Bala” Mendoza (22-2, 16 KO’s). The two first collided this past April 8 to battle for Fundora’s WBC Interim junior middleweight title. After largely controlling the fight with his long reach and aggression, Fundora was shockingly socked with a devastating counter left hook.
The fight-altering blow was followed by a debilitating two-piece combination that crumpled The Towering Inferno to the canvas. Fundora was unable to beat the count. The bout against Mendoza stood as his second attempted title defense of the Interim strap that he’d won by stopping the gritty and exciting Erickson Lubin. With the title, Fundora was looking to get a shot at the undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo.
Instead, Fundora will now scramble to get his WBC Interim title back. At the present time, there has been no formal announcement about the rematch. However, there seem to be some movements behind the scenes to get this match made. Ironically, Lubin was hoping to get his own rematch with Fundora, but clearly he has some more waiting to do. It will be interesting to see if the Fundora vs Mendoza rematch comes to fruition. Thankfully, no matter how this potential prizefight pans out, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news.
