Erickson Lubin In Talks For Sebastian Fundora Rematch!

Last April 9, super welterweights Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (24-2, 17 KO’s) and WBC Interim 154-pound champion Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora (20-0-1, 13 KO’s) staged a wonderfully exciting fight. Not only was it entertaining, it was extremely meaningful due to the Interim WBC title hanging in the balance. When all was said and done, Fundora walked away with a ninth-round stoppage over Lubin. Since prevailing in that action-packed duel, The Towering Inferno collected one more victory over Carlos Ocampa.

Fundora, 25, is currently scheduled to go head-to-head with Brian Mendoza on April 8. While he does not have an opponent officially announced, Lubin, 27, plans on stepping in the ring soon in a catchweight bout. Yet, the ears of boxing fans should perk up. In a recent interview with Fight Hype, Lubin has indicated that he and Fundora are in talks to run their thriller back.

“I wasn’t too impressed with that last performance against Ocampo but styles make fights, styles do make fights. But me and him, we are lining something up for either later this year or early next year, me and Fundora, for a rematch. So, I am definitely looking forward to that too!”

LET’S DO IT AGAIN!

Without question The Hammer, who is ranked #5 (WBC), would be delighted to get another shot at Fundora. Obviously, he would love to avenge the loss. Plus, it would put him back on track for the fight that he most wants versus undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo. It was Charlo who first marred Lubin’s record with his initial professional blemish back on October 14, 2017.

Following five hard years of climbing back up the ranks, a win over Fundora would have positioned him perfectly to challenge the unified champion again. Obviously, things didn’t go his way! Provided that Lubin and Fundora emerge victorious in their next encounters, The Hammer can potentially right two wrongs back-to-back. Clearly, there are many moving parts in this scenario so we will just have to see how everything plays out. Thankfully though, no matter what happens, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news!
