Ohara Davies Eyes Kenneth Sims Jr for Vacant WBA Title Fight
WBA junior welterweight mandatory challenger Ohara “Two Tanks” Davies (25-2, 18KO) has revealed on social media that WBA Regular champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero (15-1, 13KO) may have vacated the title. He now expects to face Kenneth Sims Jr for the vacant belt.
After defeating Ismael Barroso via controversial stoppage for the vacant title on May 13, the WBA ordered the newly crowned champion to defend the title against Davies. However, Team Romero was adamant about wanting to fight Ryan Garcia instead.
Davies never believed the fight with the WBA champion was going to happen. Over the past few weeks, he has accused Rolly of being scared to fight him and called for the Las Vegas native to vacate the title.
WHO WILL DAVIES FIGHT FOR THE VACANT TITLE?
Assuming Davies is telling the truth, who would he fight for the vacant title? It seems he believes that number-two ranked Kenneth Sims Jr may be next in line.
Sims Jr. has risen up through the ranking system, taking everyone by surprise. In 2021, he pulled off a huge upset over Elvis Rodriguez with a majority decision victory. In addition, he has been on a seven-fight win streak since losing to Samuel Teah in 2018. The top-level contender welcomes a title fight with Davies, should it come to it.
“If Rolly vacates, I’ll gladly beat Davies up for that belt. Either way, I’m getting that strap. So they just keeping it warm for me.”
It is worth mentioning that as of the writing of this article, there has been no official statement from the WBA.
