Tyson Fury laughs off cheating claims from Deontay Wilder

On October 9, WBC heavyweight champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (30-0-1, 21 KO’s) will stage his third battle with Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KO’s). Let Fury tell it, this is a waste of time. He believes he will walk through Wilder as he did in their rematch. For the Bomber however, this is an almost holy opportunity to dispense a bit of cosmic justice. This is because the former WBC champion is steadfast in his belief that Fury cheated him in their previous encounters.

While expressing this stance over the last eighteen months, Wilder has drug the Gypsy King’s name through more mud like monster truck wheels. As would only be expected, having his reputation trashed in such a prolonged and public fashion has rubbed the current WBC champion the wrong way. So much so, that all the respect that he once harbored for the Alabaman has been bled from his body. This is exactly what he said, and more, to Kugan Cassius.

“Over the past twenty months its [Fury’s opinion of Wilder] changed. Now he’s let his true colors out and everyone can see what he really is; a really slimy little rat! And what do we do with rats? We exterminate them!”

With the amount of exuberance that Wilder has poured into calling Tyson Fury a cheat, there is little room for the UK slick talker to avoid questions on the matter. Yet, when answering these inquiries, he likes to assume a jovial air and attempts to make light on the situation. On the one hand, Wilder did make it somewhat easy to do. He accused Team Fury of so many transgressions, from shifting pads in his gloves, adding egg weights to his gloves, bribing one of his trainers and drugging his water, among other things.

THE FRIGHTENED FARMER

When looking at this pile of accusations, it is not that hard consider perhaps some of this was embellishment. On the other hand however, the Bomber has highlighted the fact that Fury has been in more sketchy situations beyond this case. Fury was flat-out busted for the illegal substance nandrolone back in 2015 following his fight with Christian Hammer. This was not speculation or flimsy accusation, but rather cold, hard scientific fact. Not only was Fury busted, his cousin Hughie Fury was flagged for the exact same thing on the same card. This was also the first time that an irregularity was spotted in Fury’s glove.

In an attempt to dodge this bullet, Team Fury blamed contaminated boar meat for the adverse result. The situation got drastically more complicated when it was proven that the farmer, Martin Carefoot, who supposedly supplied the tainted product, never sold boar meat a day in his life. Carefoot stated the reason he lied is because Team Fury offered him bribe money to do so. The only reason that he cited for coming clean was because Team Fury never paid him the bribe money! Even odder, Martin Carefoot would abruptly bow out of the investigation when he claimed that some thumb breakers came around telling him to get quiet real fast. Also, if you just go by the eye test, Fury has had abnormal functioning gloves in three fights: both back-to-back bouts with Wilder and his fight against Hammer.

JUST KEEP IT LIGHT!

Adding to this murky subject, former sparring partner Nicholas Asberry added to the curious case. He publicly blew the whistle on Team Fury tampering with gloves in sparring. When all this is placed together, it doesn’t seem so farfetched to say, ‘perhaps there maybe be fire attached to all this smoke.’ Therefore, it’s no surprise that the WBC champion likes to keep the subject lighthearted. It’s easier to focus on Wilder’s tall claims rather than his laundry list of known and questionable offenses.

“Cheating. So, I’m not sure where we start with this, because first of all, it’s the costume. Then it was the referee, then he had a torn bicep on his shoulder problem, then it was his trainer, then he had his water drugged in the training room with muscle relaxer, then I weighted me gloves…the only person he hasn’t accused is, he hasn’t accused me kids of doing anything yet. But I am optimistic that he probably might!”

In the end though, at the moment, it doesn’t appear that Deontay Wilder has made any significant moves to catch any wrong doing this time around.

“Absolutely nothing! He hasn’t done anything, he hasn’t took any extra precautions to make sure I don’t cheat again! Maybe chop my two arms off!”
