Hanna Gabriels Invites Claressa Shields to a Title Fight in a Rematch
Ever since their June 22, 2018 prizefight, WBA super welterweight champion Hanna “La Amazona Black” Gabriels (20-2-1, 11 KO’s) has maintained a big beef with undisputed middleweight and unified super welterweight champion Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (10-0, 2 KO’s).
While serving as the SHOWTIME main event, the two women put on a great action-fight that even saw Gabriels put Shields down on the canvas. That instance remains the only time that T-Rex has been down.
Naturally, when the rumble was over, La Amazona Black felt that she had done enough to get the nod from the judges. Unfortunately for her, she came up short on all three of the judge’s cards. Since the bad-blood grudge match, in which the Costa Rican fighter jumped up from super welterweight to middleweight, Gabriels has unsuccessfully called for a rematch.
UNRESOLVED BEEF
Clearly, the WBA super welterweight champion still has a feeling of unfinished business with the pride of Flint, Michigan. In a brand new post on social media Gabriels once again challenged Shields to a rematch while simultaneously taking shots at T-Rex’s character as a person and her hair stylist!
Outside of responding with some kissy face emoji’s in the comments under the post, Shields has largely let the call-out fall by the wayside. For her part, T-Rex has poured a great deal of time and energy into obtaining a fight with undisputed welterweight world champion Cecilia “The First Lady” Braekhus (36-0, 9 KO’s).
Yet, very similar to Gabriels’ efforts, the First Lady has shown remarkably little interest in facing the undisputed champ.
If Shields is unable to pen a fight with another top name, since she is trying to campaign at the lower divisions, a title fight rematch with Hanna Gabriels would certainly make for a great bout all by itself. It will be telling to see who T-Rex pens her next prizefight with and at what division.
