Danny Garcia looking to Face Spence or Pacquiao in September
Two-division world champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (36-2, 21KOs) has revealed his return date to the ring and two possible opponents for September.
On his Instagram, he revealed that he’s going to be returning to the ring against either unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence (26-0, 21KOs) or WBA welterweight champion Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39KOs).
This comes as no surprise as Garcia was originally set to face Spence on January 25. However, that all went down the drain after Spence was involved in a horrific one-car accident in October; less than a monthafter winning the WBC title from Shawn Porter.
Furthermore, Garcia has also been linked to a Pacquiao bout for some time now. Although, to this point, he has been unable to secure the lucrative monetary and world title opportunity.
NOTHING IS OFFICIAL UNTIL THE CONTRACTS ARE SIGNED!
While Garcia revealed Spence and Pacquiao as the possible opponents, that’s far from a guarantee. Spence has options that include a possible title defense against IBF mandatory Kudratillo Abdukakhorov (17-0, 9KOs).
On paper, Abdukakhorov seems like the easier fight compared to Garcia, but this is boxing and nothing is guaranteed.
As for Pacquiao, he’s also far from a guarantee. Pac Man has the option to pursue a rematch with Keith Thurman or a unified title tilt against WBO welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford. There is also Mikey Garcia, who has been calling for a fight with Pacquiao for some years now.
With boxing starting to slowly get fights scheduled, it’s only a matter of time before we start to hear about fall fights being made.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
