Devin Haney puts Gary Russell on notice!
Now that the smoke is clearing, it seems as if there could be a fight made between WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15ko) and WBC featherweight champion “Mr.” Gary Russell Jr (31-1, 18ko).
CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR
Haney believes the southpaw champion is using his name to get attention and he has good reason to believe that. Russell Jr’s past of fighting only one time per year gives many fighters cause to pause when it comes to taking him seriously. However, despite his belief, it didn’t keep him from accepting the challenge and sending over a contract.
The Dream even took to social media to inform fans that the contract was sent and free of any shenanigans.
“I got the $1.5 no stipulations rematch clause only. I’m ready to beat yo ass!!!.”
He even gave the southpaw champion a nickname.
AIN’T NO CAPPIN’
The southpaw champion wasn’t going to let all that talk go by without answering. Russell went to good ole social media during an intense workout revealing they have the contract and want the rematch to be on their terms. He also put Haney on notice, making it clear how serious this is and that he better bring his A-game.
“I seen your interview Devin. Ain’t nobody motherfucking cappin’ shawty. You better get your little shit together, you see me in here grinding. This shit is real!”
A STRONG STATEMENT
Of course, this was going to incite a response from The Dream, and did he ever deliver a statement worth paying attention to. The young lightweight champion would call into question Russell’s claims of wanting to fight twice in 2020.
The next tweet was an eye-opener, as the young champion makes it clear that we could be seeing the last of the featherweight champion if they meet.
