Devin Haney Predicted a High Stakes Collision with Rival Shakur Stevenson
On May 20, undisputed lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (29-0, 15 KO’s) will face Vasiliy Lomachenko in one mega-showdown. It’s a fight that The Dream has wanted and chased for years. Given the advantages of his age, size and hunger, many are tabbing Haney to be a significant favorite in the dustup. And as is often the case with boxing fans, there is no shortage of people already mentally lining him up with future opposition. One such opponent that has boxing enthusiasts drooling is two-division champion “Fearless” Shakur Stevenson (20-0, 10 KO’s).
STARTED FROM THE BOTTOM
The two were good friends during their amateur years and remained civil with one another in the professionals. Now that they occupy the same division however, the clock is ticking for when they will match their great ability in the squared-circle. In a recent interview with Seconds Out, Haney explained how none of this is a surprise to him.
“Yeah, me and Shakur been knowing each other since we were kids, we know each other well. We sparred numerous times as kids and we were friends coming up, but we were friends then and now we are rivals. We knew that one day it would come, we would see each other at the top and it might be now, it might be later. We just got to see when we align and when we are going to get it on . . . in boxing, its hard to be friendly competition when you guys want to punch each other in the face!”
Obviously, Haney must first take care of business and defeat Lomachenko, or else all talks about Stevenson are in vain. Yet, if The Dream is victorious, then a big-time prizefight against Shakur Stevenson for all the marbles is among one of the best duels to be made in the sport today. Regardless of how these upcoming, and would-be, matchups play out, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news!
