Daniel Dubois No Longer Training with Head Coach Shane McGuigan
If all goes according to plan, WBA Regular heavyweight champion Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois (19-1, 18 KO’s) will next face unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. The two have been ordered to face one another by the WBA and are presently heading to a purse bid. Yet, even if that match is finalized, according to No Smoke Sport, Dubois will go to the ring minus trainer Shane McGuigan. The two had been working together for the past two years. McGuigan will continue to train Dynamite’s younger sister, Caroline Dubois.
At the moment, word on the street has it that Dubois will now team up with chief second Don Charles. Dynamite hooked up with McGuigan directly after his sole professional loss to Joe Joyce back in November 2020. While partnered with McGuigan, Dubois successfully bested Bogdan Dinu, Joe Cusumano, Trevor Bryan and Kevin Lerena. To date, Charles is best known for his work training Wildman Derek Chisora.
Currently it is not known why Dubois has chosen to make this significant alteration now. Generally speaking, it takes a number of matches before a fighter and trainer can truly mesh in the ring. So it seems rather glaring that Dynamite would drop McGuigan while trying to secure the biggest fight of his career. Yet, regardless of why or how this team change will affect him, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report all the latest updates.
