Devin Haney takes on Top Rank!
WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15) has done a very good job of remaining relevant while recovering from injury and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Boxing’s youngest promoter was placed as “Champion In-Recess” after requiring shoulder surgery following a successful title defense against Dominican fighter Alfredo “Ojo” Santiago (12-1, 4ko).
Furthermore, when fighters are placed on the injured list, they tend to fade to black, so to speak. Team Haney has wisely taken advantage of this time to train. Also, by staying busy on social media, they have kept the fans tuned-in.
Moreover, the public back and forth beefs with other fighters have been enjoyable to watch. First, there is the desire to fight former amateur rival Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (20-0, 17ko). Then there was former four divisional champions Adrien “The Problem” Broner (33-4-1, 24ko).
However, the most interesting feud is with both Top Rank fighters IBF champion Teofimo Lopez (15-0, 12ko) and unified champion Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (14-1, 10ko).
HANEY V TOP RANK
Okay, once again we are at that point where you should grab the popcorn and prepare to be entertained.
Haney is extremely confident and won’t let anyone say otherwise. Still looking to get in on the action, he went to social media, in a WWE Bill Goldberg moment, asking one simple question.
This caught the attention of the VP of Boxing Operations Carl Moretti, and boy did he offer a “drop the mic” reply.
Oh wait a minute, stop laughing. There is more!
The WBC champion wasn’t going to be outdone and quickly responded with an eyebrow-raising remark.
One thing is for certain, all of this just adds to the need for the sport to resume. When it does, I want to be the fly on the boardroom wall when all parties involved come together.
