Tony Harrison’s Father Dies of COVID-19
When COVID-19 initially threw its dark cloak over the boxing world, it was largely just a major buzzkill for the fans and economic quicksand for boxers and their teams. In those first days, the boxing community only worried about when prizefighting would be authorized to resume. Sadly, these notions rapidly became trivial matters as the global virus put its deadly side on display.
First, light heavyweight boxer and former WBO title contender Anthony Yarde lost his father to the ailment. Then, we lost famed referee Eddie Cotton to COVID-19. It has now been revealed that former super welterweight champion Tony “Super Bad” Harrison (28-3, 21 KO’s) lost his father and trainer.
Ali Salaam, 59, has died from complications due to COVID-19.
In taking to his Instagram account to pay tribute to his father, Harrison simultaneously confirmed the grim news.
Salaam was an integral part of Harrison’s team, as well as his 2018 title run to capture the WBC championship from Jermell Charlo. Along with Super Bad, Salaam trained a number of professional and amateur boxers in his native Detroit area. Prior to becoming a trainer, Salaam was also a fighter himself who amassed a record of (11-7, 5 KO’s). 3kingsboxing extend our heartfelt condolences out to Harrison and his family during this trying time.
