Eddie Hearn Airs Jaron Ennis vs Vergil Ortiz Negotiation Details

Matchroom Promoter Eddie Hearn may have cornered rival Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya in the negotiations for making the fight featuring Vergil Ortiz and Jaron Ennis.

The boxing community wants to see these two young, undefeated prime fighters in the ring. However, negotiations seem to be getting in the way as De La Hoya demands a bigger piece of the pie. Furthermore, he indicated that Hearn made a mistake by overcommitting to the fight and is now desperate.

“Eddie, since you are so desperate to make the fight, then let’s do this: 60/40 for Vergil and 5% for the winner.”

THE TRUTH OF WHAT WAS AGREED UPON

Hearn responded in an interview with iFL TV by explaining what all parties agreed on for the split. In addition, he expressed a willingness to renegotiate for a better deal.

“We sat in a room with DAZN – me, Oscar, Eric Gomez, Pete, and Jared from DAZN. We all agreed on the deal . . . 50/50 and five percent for the winner . . . We left the room to make the deal. Jaron Ennis signed the deal, and Vergil Ortiz didn’t sign the contract.”

“I’m happy to have that overlay of a bigger percentage for the winner . . . I believe Oscar wants to make the best fights, and when he says, ‘Eddie, you’re desperate,’ you’re showing your hand. I am desperate to make the best fights in boxing for DAZN.”

De La Hoya may be in a little trouble, considering DAZN seems to be invested in making the fight. Although he is demanding a bigger split, the fact that they had a previous agreement could come back to haunt him.
