Bam Rodriguez Eyeing Naoya Inoue and Junto Nakatani
Reigning unified junior bantamweight champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez (23-0, 16 KOs) continues to set his sights on the biggest challenges. Bam could move up for a showdown against the winner of undisputed junior featherweight champion Naoya Inoue (32-0, 27 KOs) and three-division world champion Junto Nakatani (32-0, 24 KOs).
Longtime trainer Robert Garcia has been outspoken about Bam and is targeting the victor as his next career-defining opportunity. The showdown between the two Japanese stars is targeting May 2 at the Tokyo Dome – a venue befitting a fight of that magnitude.
For Rodriguez, a potential meeting with either Inoue or Nakatani would represent a significant step up in weight. In addition, he would get a chance to cement his status as one of boxing’s pound-for-pound elite. At just 25 years old, Bam has already captured world titles in two divisions. A win over either man would place him firmly among the sport’s generational talents.
As the boxing world awaits confirmation of Inoue vs Nakatani, Rodriguez’s ambitions add another layer of intrigue. This move also sets the stage for what could be one of the sport’s biggest fights in 2026.
