Errol Spence Not Happy with Oscar De La Hoya

Former unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. hit back at Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya for mentioning his name. After making an absurd demand on social media for Vergil Ortiz vs Jaron Ennis, De La Hoya claims that Ortiz doesn’t need Ennis and could fight Spence.

This isn’t a surprise to this author, considering De La Hoya went into negotiation mode after Ortiz laid waste to Erickson Lubin. The Golden Boy CEO recently took to social media, requesting a 60/40 split in favor of his fighter. Moreover, he claimed the winner, with 5% going to the winner. Yet, the statement that got the attention of The Truth was when De La Hoya talked about a fight with Ortiz in Texas.

“Vergil can fight two or three different guys in mega fights; he’s got options. Imagine him with Errol Spence at Dallas Cowboys Stadium.”

WHERE THERE IS SMOKE THERE IS FIRE

Spence responded with a post on Instagram that captured the attention of the boxing community.

The former unified champion is as a retired fighter who hasn’t made an official announcement. So, De La Hoya wouldn’t bring up Spence unless there is something there. Some boxing fans would file into AT&T Stadium, however the majority of the community are not interested in seeing Ortiz face Spence.

In fairness, De La Hoya did say that Ennis is part of the plan. However, fans want to see them fight next. If Ortiz vs Ennis doesn’t take place, it’s going to be a bad look for the top brass at Golden Boy Promotions.
