Takeshi Inoue set for to make his ring return in August.

Former title challenger and super welterweight contender Takeshi Inoue will return to the ring August 3. The event will be held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo Japan. There is no official opponent at the time of this writing.

Inoue had a thrilling 12-round battle with WBO junior midleweight champion Jaime Munguia in his last fight. Many fans and pundits felt there was a viable argument that Inoue deserved to walk away the new champion. Unfortunately for him, the judges didn’t feel the same way. Therefore, he will now have to earn his way back into contention.

As it sits, Inoue ranks #9 in the WBO rankings. He currently holds no top 15 ranking with any of the other sanctioning bodies. So, his quickest route back to a title opportunity is to pursue a rematch with rival Mungaia.

While there are many intriguing options for bouts in the WBO’s top 10, it will still ultimately be up to Inoue and his handlers in deciding which route they pursue. I wouldn’t mind seeing him featured in a title eliminator against fellow recent title challenger Dennis Hogan.

Both, Hogan and Inoue lost controversial decisions to champion Mungaia in their last fight and most fans would be in support of either fighter being able to earn an opportunity to jump back in there with the champ.

There is also the possibility the champion moves up to middleweight and the WBO title ends up vacant. In that case, it would make sense to have Hogan and Inoue fight for the championship as opposed to fighting for an opportunity to compete for it.

As for now, this is all wishful thinking. However, here at 3kingsboxing, we appreciate exciting fighters and Inoue is just that. So stay tuned as we learn the details of who he will face in his anticipated return later this summer.
