Will Jaron Ennis vs Blair Cobbs Finally Become a Reality?

For years, welterweight boxer Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (17-1-1, 10 KO’s) has pursued IBF 147-pound champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis (33-0, 29 KO’s). Having encountered him many times during his residence in Philly, Boots’ hometown, Cobbs believes he has the perfect poison for Boots’ continued progress. Now, it appears that the cards are falling in The Flair’s favor.

For a lengthy stretch, Ennis and crew have not been able to secure the big time fights that they desire. Just in the last several months Boots, or his team, have been on the wrong side of public perception with failed negotiations with Brain Norman Jr. and Vergil Ortiz Jr. Alongside this, it’s been recently reported that talks between Ennis and Teofimo Lopez have dissolved. If this information is verified, then naturally this leaves Boots in need of a dance partner.

MUSICAL CHAIRS

Truthfully speaking, at this point, Ennis versus Cobbs is both a solid and meaningful duel. Each of the competitors is striving for divisional dominance. Yet, neither can truly claim this designation minus first dispatching the other. Going a step further, as the welterweight division continues its current evolution, The Flair is legitimately one of the more recognizable and dangerous.

Not to mention that Cobbs is one of the final mainstays of the Terence Crawford/Errol Spence era of the division. Clearing Cobbs out could be viewed as Ennis symbolically overtaking the reigns of the division. The match would keep him busy and Boots could finally silence one of his most vocal rivals in the weight class. Yet, the behind the scenes dealings in boxing are a tricky and nefarious sort. So, it will be interesting to see who both Cobbs and Ennis test their might with next. Let’s just hope that it’s against one another and taking place real soon!
