Israil Madrimov Weathers Luis Salazar To Claim Wide UD Win

After roughly one year of inactivity, super welterweight fighter Israil “The Dream” Madrimov (10-2-1, 7 KO’s) defeated Luis “El Olimpico” Salazar (20-1, 7 KO’s) by way unanimous decision. Despite claiming the win to the tune to 99-91 on all three cards, Madrimov was forced to work hard over all three minutes of each of the ten rounds.

Salazar gave as good as he got over the first half of the duel. However, when the match hit the back nine, he began to wilt. This culminated in El Olimpico almost being stopped in the final round. Luckily for him, Madrimov ran out of gas, himself. The win marks the first for Madrimov in almost two full years.

Ahead of Salazar, The Dream was rebounding from unanimous decision losses to Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Terence Crawford. Now that Madrimov has gotten back in the win column it will be interesting to see who he targets next. Currently, he has the favorable rankings of #6 (WBA), #6 (WBC) and #8 (WBO).

With these standings, securing a prizefight with a known opponent such as Keith Thurman #3 (WBO and WBC), who has been out of action for about a year, is not out of the realm of possibility. He should also be in the market for marquee foes, himself.
