Jaron Ennis Works Hard For The Win Over Karen Chukhadzhian
In a rematch of their previous contest, IBF welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis (33-0, 29 KO’s) defeated Karen Chukhadzhian (24-3, 13 KO’s) by way of unanimous decision. A determined Chukhadzhian decided to take the fight to Boots early in the fight. As Ennis met his aggression and the rounds crept past, Chukhadzhian began holding with greater and greater frequency.
During the fifth round, several left hooks and a nifty right uppercut forced Chukhadzhian to take a knee before absorbing more damage. From this round on the duel became very choppy and stuffed to the gills with the challenger’s clinches and holding. In the tenth round referee Harvey Dock deducted a point from Chukhadzhian for excessive holding.
Over the course of the match there is no doubt that Boots landed the greater volume of quality shots. At the same time, due to his oftentimes leaky defense, Ennis was nailed with a plethora of heavy shots throughout the match. Luckily his chin held up to the brutish shots. In the end, Ennis prevailed on all three judges ledgers to the tune of 119-107, 117-109 and 116-110.
In the post-fight interiew, Ennis hinted at moving to junior middleweight.
