Trainer BoMac McIntyre Guides the Sport’s Top Talent in 2023
Without question, Brian “BoMac” McIntyre has maintained a frenetic training schedule during 2023. For his trouble, the high profile chief second guided many of his charges into big fights with great results. This is why McIntyre has earned the nod for 3Kings Boxing’s 2023 Trainer of the Year.
FROM THE MUD
Naturally, the biggest name associated with BoMac is long-time charge and two-division undisputed champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (40-0, 31 KO’s). In fact, Crawford claimed the biggest win of his career when he faced, man-handled and stopped then unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. on July 29, 2023.
When Bud secured the ninth round technical knockout, he was crowned the undisputed champion of the division. This was obviously a significant and historical win in and of itself. Yet, it was all the more special since McIntyre has worked with Crawford for his entire professional career. Without question, the Crawford vs Spence Jr. showdown was one of boxing’s biggest and most significant bouts of the year.
THE UP AND COMING TALENT
Aside from Crawford, Brian McIntyre works with more top talent in the sport. For example, BoMac also functions as the chief second for Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (9-0, 6 KO’s). During 2023, Davis notched three wins over Nahir Albright, Francesco Patera and Anthony Yigit, and finished the year ranked #7 (IBF), #8 (WBO) and #9 (WBC).
Although, his win over Albright was later reclassified as a no-contest due to Davis later being flagged for having marijuana in his system. Currently, the future is looking exceedingly bright for the Olympic silver medalist who has a February 8 duel scheduled with seasoned veteran Jose Pedraza. Unsurprisingly, The Businessman was also 3Kings Boxing’s Prospect of the Year.
While they are not as high profile as Crawford and Davis, BoMac is also the lead trainer for rising talents Kelvin “Night Night” Davis (11-0, 6 KOs) (welterweight) and Ryan “Blue Chip” Martin (26-2, 16 KO’s) (super lightweight). Between the two, they went 5-0 in their duels during 2023. The highly-active trainer even stamped a “W” on his passport when he guided Chris Eubank Jr. to a pivotal rematch victory over Liam Smith intra Manchester. Given this abundance of success and developing talent, it will be interesting to see how McIntyre and his troupe of fighters perform in 2024!
