Jaron Ennis Offers to Replace Ortiz Against Eimantas Stanionis
When it comes to the eye test, Interim IBF welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis (31-0, 28 KO’s) passes with flying colors. The gritty Philly fighter has a great arsenal, can switch-hit, displays solid in-ring intelligence, holds formidable power and totes a great chin. Now all he wants is his shot at a legitimate world title. Unfortunately for him, he has to wait for champions Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr to clash and crown an undisputed champion. In the meantime however, Ennis has called out Regular WBA 147-pound champion Eimantis Stanionis (14-0, 9 KO’s) and all the other top names.
As 3Kings Boxing previously reported, Stanionis was on the eve of a showdown with the highly touted Vergil Ortiz Jr. That was before the fight was suddenly called off, for the third time, when Ortiz had to withdraw for medical reasons. Unfortunately for the Lithuanian fighter, there was not enough time to install a replacement opponent. So following his impressive tenth round stoppage of Roiman Villa, Ennis let it be known he’d love a scrap with Stanionis.
“Most definitely, let’s make it happen I will take Stanionis. Vergil Ortiz fell out, I will take Stanionis in a heartbeat. I am trying to get back in the ring one more time at the end of the year, let’s make it three. So Stanionis, Keith Thurman, [Yordenis] Ugas, Bud, Spence and all the other top guys out there, let’s make these fights happen, let’s get it popping!”
TIME WILL TELL
Right now it appears that Boots, 26, versus Crawford or Spence will not be happening any time soon. In fact, Spence has already stated that he will only face Ennis if the duel takes place at super welterweight. Even with this being said, those fights versus Stanionis, Yordenis Ugas or Keith Thurman would all make for extremely exciting prizefights.
And, if he continues to win in dynamic fashion, those clashes will only serve to further bolster his deadly reputation in the division. So let’s kick back and see what is next on the menu for Boots. Luckily, no matter what is next for him, 3Kings Boxing will be on deck to report all the latest moves and transactions!
