Jarrell Miller Targets Daniel Dubois WBA Title Fight Next
Heavyweight Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (26-0-1, 22 KOs) has never been shy about calling out the top fighters in the division. One such prominent heavyweight near the top of his hit list is WBA Regular champion Daniel Dubois (19-1, 18 KOs).
Coming off a sixth-round stoppage over Lucas Browne on March 18, the talkative Miller spoke to media source iFL TV, Big Baby broke down his rationale behind targeting a fight with Dubois.
“Right now, I want Dubois [. . .] Dubois has a title and he needs a fight in June. So, that’s what we’re looking at right now, and I want to get back in shape, get in better shape, and just do what I do best, and that’s kick ass.”
Arguably the division’s biggest trash-talker, Miller is getting back into form. This most recent bout was his third fight following a two-year suspension from the sport in June 2020 due to a series of failed PED tests. Slowly stepping up the level of competition, Browne was his most formidable opponent during his comeback.
POSSIBLE UNDER THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES
Some observers may look at Miller targeting Dubois as wishful thinking. However, it’s something not to be laughed off and dismissed.
A key factor could be the status of the negotiations between unified champion Oleksandr Usyk and WBC champion Tyson Fury. The WBA has given Usyk and Fury an April 1 deadline to reach an agreement. Should they fail to do so, the sanctioning body will order a bout between Usyk and Dubois.
Now, consider that Usyk and Fury agree to a fight before April 1. This leaves the door open for Dubois to fight anyone else. Under that scenario, it’s not inconceivable for Dubois’s promoter, Frank Warren, to entertain making a fight between Miller and Dubois this Summer in Dubois’s home country of Great Britain.
A fight between the two in the UK would be a decent draw. Miller is currently ranked eleventh by the WBA. If he continues to win a move up the ranks, a matchup with Dubois later this year is a viable fight.
