IBF and WBA heavyweight champion gave his first real statements to the press earlier today but didn’t address his social media issues. Instead the Brit talked about his potential opponents. While most fans would like to see him and WBC champion Deontay Wilder square off it appears his next opponent will be WBO champion Joseph Parker.
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn and Parker’s promoter David Higgins are reportedly close to a deal for the end of March for a fight at the O2 Arena. After a bit of back and forth between the two it seems a deal is all but done.
Parker’s promoters Duco Events held a bizarre press conference earlier this week during which they showed clips of fights in which Joshua has been hurt in as evidence their man can win. Joshua did not see the funny side;
“He’s investing his time in the wrong areas – does he want publicity? Is it a PR stunt? I don’t know”
When asked about a potential fight with former champion Tyson Fury he responded by saying;
“Fury is just awkward. He is tall and I think he’s a bit of a nut-job to be honest with you,” said Joshua.
“I think he’s just got a bit of a screw loose. Any man with a screw loose even if it is just in business, they just have a little something that you can’t put your finger on.”
“Fury would be a real breakdown job, a real gruesome type fight. Kind of like that Klitschko fight – I’ll go to hellfire and back to get the win.”
“Parker would take a bit more of a pasting but I’d get to him. Wilder, I’d knock him out with one shot. Not like I’d go in there and bang but when I catch Wilder, I’d definitely knock him out.” said Joshua.
