Nakatani May Face Inoue Next After Demolishing Salapat
In front of a packed Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan, Junto Nakatani put the WBC bantamweight title on the line against Thailand’s Tasana Salapat aka Petch Sor Chitpattana. The 26-year-old Nakatani has established himself as one of the elite fighters in the sport.
Only 26, he’s already a three-division world champion. A fighter blessed with immense skill and power, Nakatani has steamrolled the competition. He faced Salapat, a fighter with a gaudy ring record, but his previous wins have come against mediocre and poor opposition. The Thai fighter entered this contest as a considerable underdog.
BRING ON THE MEGA-FIGHT NEXT
Nakatani’s (28-0, 22KO) jab and counter-punching were on point throughout the fight. His footwork was supreme, as he easily switched from offense to defense landing hard shots before avoiding the return fire. As the fight continued, the WBO champion started finding a home for the uppercuts and hooks to the body.
When Chitpattana (76-2, 53KO) started building momentum, Nakatani landed a barrage of punishing shots that dropped the challenger. Like a shark that smelled blood, he went into beast mode and landed a hard counter left hand that put Chitpattana on the canvas for a second time.
With the challenger lying on the canvas, the referee stopped the fight in the sixth round. Nakatani looked unbeatable and could be headed into a mega-fight next.
Although he didn’t call out any names, boxing fans are hoping for a showdown with undisputed super bantamweight champion Naoya “Monster” Inoue next.
