George Kambosos Tells Devin Haney to Sign the Contract

When surveying the landscape for his next opponent, there is no doubt that WBA Super, WBO and IBF lightweight champion “Ferocious” George Kambosos Jr (20-0, 10 KO’s) was looking to face Vasiliy Lomachenko. To erase all doubt, Kambosos and his team have repeated this fact numerous times. Unfortunately for him though, Loma has returned to his native Ukraine to aid in the defense efforts from Russia and is unavailable. With this being the case, Ferocious felt that WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (27-0, 15 KO’s) was his best second option.

For his part, Haney has been chasing a major fight since he became the mandatory challenge for Lomachenko’s WBC title back when he was the belt-holding champ. Ultimately, the Dream would not get the fight with Loma nor Teofimo Lopez who beat and took Lomachenko’s title. Kambosos would go on to snatch the belt from Lopez which has created the current situation.

MAKE IT HAPPEN!

In his effort to finalize a match with Kambosos, Devin Haney has made it very clear he would accept any deal that was being offered to Loma. Now, as he told Fight Hype, Kambosos is going to hold his feet to the fire.

“He said he would take the same deal as Lomachenko, did he not? He went out and said the same thing once he felt the heat that the Loma fight was getting close. So, be a man of your word. For whatever reason, you and your fans feel like I was avoiding you. Never the case, I will fight any man!”

“[…] The deal is there, you saw it today on social media as well. Eddie Hearn went out and said that the offer has been made, they are going to look at it and make it happen. So, it shouldn’t be a problem! Be a man of your word and I’ll see you in Melbourne.”

ONE NIGHT ONLY!

Provided that Haney does accept the fight, then it’s clear this will be a one-off. That is because Ferocious has already confirmed that there will be no rematch clause. While this a bold and confident move to make at the negotiating table, this could very well come back to bite him later. In the end, only time will tell. Yet, before we get too caught up in hypotheticals that could take place after the fight, let’s first get the fight officially announced!

“Rematch clause for when I destroy Devin Haney? no chance! What’s a rematch clause needed for? His belt, his toy, that’s definitely no needed! I don’t care about all that stuff. I’m focused on getting rid of this guy, getting rid of this kid and after that, move on to the next guy!”
