Latest Injury News on Keith Thurman May Signal the End

Former unified welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman has been out of the ring and the limelight for over two years. With news of a recent injury that removed him from a high-profile fight, fans are questioning if his career has come to an end.

The boxing news cycle is in a frenzy after learning One Time suffered a bicep injury, resulting in his removal from fighting WBO junior middleweight champion Tim Tszyu. When the fight was first announced, boxing fans did not welcome the news with open arms.

Some inside the boxing community believed Tszyu was using Thurman’s name to help bolster his resume. So, the only question that fans can ask is if retirement is the next destination for Thurman.

SHOULD HE FIGHT AGAIN OR RETIRE?

The Floridian had to take a long layoff due to an injury after suffering his first career defeat to boxing legend Manny Pacquiao in 2019. After that, he returned to the ring to defeat Mario Barrios in 2022. However, he later admitted to suffering a hand injury that sidelined him for another couple of years.

While sidelined, Thurman spent the next several years attached to some of the big names in the sport before landing the Tszyu fight. At 35 years old and with another major injury, boxing fans may have seen the last of One Time.

A bicep injury is nothing to sneeze at. Depending on how bad the tear is, the former unified champion could be sitting out at least six months. Then comes the reality of how badly the injury may have affected his power. Furthermore, he will be mentally tested, as most fighters find it hard to return to the ring once their body becomes a liability.
