Lauren Price Sees A Guaranteed Victory Against Natasha Jonas

Reigning WBA women’s welterweight champion Lauren Price (8-0, 2 KOs) has plenty of confidence heading into her March 7 clash with 147-pound belt-holder Natasha Jonas (16-2-1, 9 KOs) at Royal Albert Hall in Kensington, England. With her skill, it’s a battle that Price is more than capable of winning.

In May 2024, Price won the WBA crown with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Jessica McCaskill. After defending the title by destroying Bexcy Matteus in three rounds in December 2024, Price is pushing for greater glory.

The resume of Jonas is stellar. At age 40, she seems to be fighting better now than at any point in her career. Her skill, power, and savvy make her an elite fighter. A unified champion in two weight divisions, she was 3KingsBoxing.com’s 2023 Female Fighter of the Year. It can be argued that Jonas is a future Hall of Famer when she decides to hang up the gloves for good.

READY FOR THE BIG TEST

However, Price is unbowed by her achievements and the enormity of the upcoming contest. During an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, the WBA titleholder said she’s ready to seize the moment.

“I believe that, right now, this fight is the right time, and I’ll prove that on Friday. […] I’m just better in all areas. My skill, my speed, my feints, my triggers, everything. If I got to bite down on my gumshield and have a fight, I can do that as well.”

POTENTIAL BLUEPRINT TO VICTORY

She will need that speed and athleticism against the unified champion. One of Jonas’s best attributes is her inside fighting ability. She wants to force Price to make mistakes and draw her into a dogfight.

With her background in kickboxing and professional soccer, Price is more athletic and faster than Jonas. In the ring, she has fast hands and outstanding footwork. If she wins the battle of the jab, puts her speed to full effect, and maintains her cool, Jonas will have plenty of problems on her hands. It would behoove Price if she can also put some hurt on Jonas early to get her respect.

Expectations have been lofty for Price since her amateur days when she won a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The 30-year-old has been seamless, so far, in the professional ranks. Hungry to have herself considered as one of the elites in the sport, Price is hungry to defeat Jonas and state her case as the best women’s welterweight fighter in boxing.
