Lemieux vs O’Sullivan Fight Preview
David Lemieux (34-4, 33 KOs) will be fighting Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan (28-2,20 KOs) on the September 15th Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs Gennady “GGG” Golovkin undercard. This fight could determine who gets to fight the winner of the main event.
Both of these fighters have some career ups and downs. Lemieux, who started his career as a blue chip prospect, has had a roller coaster ride of a career. He holds signature wins over Hassan N’Jikam, Curtis Stevens, Fernando Guerrero, and Gabe Rosado. Lemieux has shown impressive ring prowess. However, at the upper levels of the middleweight division, he has struggled in losses to Gennady Golovkin and Billy Joe Saunders. Lemieux also suffered losses to Joachim Alcine and Marco Antonio Rubio. Lemieux is a former IBF world champion and this fight could propel him into a title shot.
O’Sullivan himself was also a highly regarded prospect. Not as touted as Lemieux, but much was expected. He owns wins over Antoine Douglas and Milton Nunez. He’s on a six-fight winning streak after suffering a stoppage defeat to Chris Eubank Jr. Both of these fighters have aggressive, come-forward styles coupled with effective punching power. This fight should provide fireworks with its combination of styles, bad blood, and high stakes.
