Charles Martin vs Gregory Corbin recap.
Former IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin would took on undefeated prospect Gregory Corbin. This match was an ugly fight that saw too many fouls.
Martin, started this fight in the usual manner pumping the jab followed by the straight left hand that never missed. The former champion looked very comfortable with the game plan coming forward landing at will.
This would continue to be the story throughout the fight. In the fifth round, the former champion suffered a cut above the eye but wouldn’t let it take him off the game plan.
The challenger didn’t have anything that seemed to be working; constantly dipping down in direct path of the punches. Things would get worse with three separate point deductions over the course of the fight.
Lennox Lewis and Joe Goosen were surprised the ref would allow the fight to continue. Then, in the eighth round, when the challenger landed yet another low blow, the fight ended with a disqualification.
This wasn’t exactly the type of showing the aforementioned boxer wanted. However, in boxing sometimes you have to win, then look good the next time.
