Frank Martin to Wager Win Streak Against Jackon Marinez!

On July 9, unbeaten 135-pound contender Frank “The Ghost” Martin (15-0, 11KOs) will take a step up in competition when he takes on Jackson “El Fenix” Marinez (19-2, 7KOs). The fight will take place live on Showtime on the undercard of the WBC 126-pound title fight between WBC champ Mark Magsayo and Rey Vargas.

Martin heads into this fight ranked #14 in the WBA. He’s facing Marinez on short notice after original opponent Ricardo Nunez had to withdraw due to visa issues. Martin, an extremely talented fighter, has flashed world champion potential with his fast hands, explosive power and very good boxing skills. He’s now being trained by Derek James and he’s looking to take his game to the next level.

However, in order to do so, The Ghost must get past a very talented fighter in El Fenix. In his last two fights, he’s 0-2. In August 2020, Marinez lost a very controversial unanimous decision to Rolando Romero in a fight where he clearly out-boxed and neutralized the hard-hitting former WBA Interim lightweight champion. However, in his next fight, he would be dominated and stopped in six rounds by former IBF 135-pound champion Richard Commey.

This is a pivotal fight for both men. For Martin, he wants to continue to showcase his evolving skillset as well as continue his rise in the WBA rankings. The 5’10 Marinez currently sits unranked, although a win over Martin would propel him into more marquee fights.
